How to make simple traditional zeera rice

Zeera rice is popular Pakistani/indian everyday dish - consisting of main ingredient rice and zera ( cumin seeds). This dish is rich source of carbohydrates and super healthy especially for kids. Zeera rice is very easy to cook. You can serve this with many recipes.

What you need?
This recipe is very simple and in this recipe you need rice and zeera/jeera ( cumin) as main ingredients along with onion, clove, cinnamon stick and off course cooking oil.
Rice selection ?
You can use any type of rice according to your taste but basmati rice is best selection for this recipe.
Tips?
- Must soak rice for 20-30 mins.
- Perfectly cooked rice should be separate and not broken.
- If you're making 1 cup of rice you'll need 2 cups of water.
- Zeera/jeera (cumin) burns very quickly, so heat about 20-30 seconds is enough.
How to make?
Ingredients:
- Rice - 1 cup
- Cooking oil - 2-3 tbs
- Onion - 1 small ( chopped)
- Ginger garlic paste - half teaspoon
- Zeera ( cumin) - 1 teaspoon
- Bay leaf - 1
- Cinnamon stick - 1 medium
- Clove - 2-3
- Water - 2 cup
- Salt - as per taste
- Fresh coriander - chopped ( for garnish)
Direction:
- Place rice in a bowl and soak for 20-25 mins.
- Heat oil on medium flame in a pan.
- Add onion and fry until golden brown.
- Once the onion is golden brown , add ginger garlic paste and fry on low flame for 1 min.
- After 1 min add 2-3 spoon of water and cover the pot for 1 min.
- Now add salt, bay leaf, clove and cinnamon stick.
- Now add zeera ( cumin) and saute for 20-30 secs.
- Add 2 cups of water and bring a boil.
- Now add soaked rice ( after water has been drained ).
- Once most of the water is evaporated , reduce flame on low point and cover the pot.
- Let the rice cook completely in its steam for about 5 minutes and then remove from heat
- After 5 min remove the lid, garnish with chopped coriander and serve with raita.
